Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Following his great personality and playing skills, he was regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and labelled “the greatest” by FIFA, he was among the most successful and popular sports figures of the 20th century.

He was born to his parents – Dondinho and Celeste Arantes on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is currently at the age of 82.

After several years of playing professional football, he announced his retirement in 1974. Fortunately for football lovers who love to see him play, he agreed to a three-year $7 million contract with the New York Cosmos of the North American  Soccer League and to promote the game in the United States in 1975.
