Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt has told GQ Magazine that although he called himself an atheist, he never really was.

The 58-year-old actor said: “I grew up with Christianity. Always questioned it, but it worked at times. And then when I got on my own, I completely left it and I called myself agnostic.

He added that he was raised in a Baptist household and characterised that religion as being “cleaner, stricter, by-the-book Christianity.”

After that, he said that his parents had joined a “more charismatic movement that got into speaking in tongues and raising your hands” while he was a high school student.

Pitt provided a critical assessment of his parents’ religion but provided some justification for speaking in tongues by saying: “They do, I’m sure of it. They’re publishing something, I know that. We’re complex, by God.”
