London was the birthplace of English cricketer and journalist Robin Geoffrey Marlar (2 January 1931 – 30 September 2022). He received his schooling at Harrow School and Magdalene College in Cambridge.
From 1951 through 1968, Marlar participated in first-class cricket for Sussex as well as Cambridge University, leading the squad to triumphs over Oxford in 1951, 1952, and 1953.
A creative off-break bowler, he set a personal best of 9/46 in 1955 at Hove against Lancashire. In 289 games, he took 970 wickets at an average of 25.22. He “governed Sussex with cunning and skill” from 1955 to 1959. Only five native-born cricket players are still playing in this position, including him.
Was Robin Marlar vaccinated?
There are no available records confirming whether he had taken the vaccine or not. We will confirm that as soon as we get information on that.
His family has not attributed his death to any illness as it is believed he died of ageing.
Marlar ran as a Conservative for Bolsover in the 1959 general election and for Leicester North East in a 1962 by-election. He ran for office in the 1993 Newbury by-election decades later.
For the years 2005 and 2006, he presided over the MCC and Sussex County Cricket Club, respectively.
