Vicky Phelan, a pro-Cervical Check activist, has passed away. Milford Hospice in Limerick is where she passed away.
As a result of learning that she had received false smear test results without being informed, Ms Phelan disclosed the CervicalCheck screening controversy in Ireland.
She resolved the case, with no admission of liability on the part of the laboratory or health services.

In 2014, Vicky Phelan, 48, received a cervical cancer diagnosis. A smear test conducted during treatment came out negative. Vicky Phelan wasn’t told about it until 2017.
Vicky learned that her cancer was deadly a year later. Vicky Phelan filed a lawsuit and received a €2.5 million settlement.
Over 200 women per year receive inaccurate smear test results, Vicky learned after doing more research on the subject. The majority of them are unaware of the retest. This error has been claimed.
She is survived by her 2 children, Amelia and Darragh, and her ex-husband Jim.
