Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known as Weeknd, was born on February 16, 1990, in Toronto, Ontario. His parents, Ethiopian immigrants Makkonen Tesfaye and Samrawit Hailu, divorced shortly after he was born.
In Scarborough, he was raised by his mother and grandmother. The Weeknd was raised as an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. When asked about his religious beliefs in 2020, he told Variety, “I dunno…everything is a test, and if you are religious or spiritual, you have to go through things.”

The Weeknd and Angelina Jolie sparked dating rumors last year when they were seen leaving a restaurant together and hanging out on several occasions. Rumors began to circulate at the end of 2020 that the ‘In Your Eyes star was romantically linked to songstress Rosalia after she remixed his hit, ‘Blinding Lights.’ They also collaborated again in November 2021 on her song ‘La Fama,’ in which they starred in a seriously flirty music video.
However, neither of the artists addressed the speculation, as it appears The Weeknd is keeping his love life private for the time being. Selena Gomez and Weeknd dated for nine months after first being linked two months after his divorce from Bella. They ended their relationship in October 2017, and songs about their love quickly followed.
