Stewie, a very bright toddler who acts and speaks like an adult, is quite precocious. The megalomaniacal sociopath who was initially fixated on murder, matricide, and world dominance, was introduced in the first episode of the series.
The idea and design of Stewie were inspired by two short films by MacFarlane, The Life of Larry and Larry & Steve, which featured a middle-aged man named Larry and a perceptive dog named Steve.
Based on these two short films, MacFarlane was invited to present a pilot to the Fox Broadcasting Company. After the pilot received the go-ahead, the Griffin family made their appearance in the episode “Death Has a Shadow.”
