Robin Geoffrey Marlar was an English cricketer and cricket journalist.
Marlar ran as a Conservative for Bolsover in the 1959 general election and for Leicester North East in a 1962 by-election.
He ran for office in the 1993 Newbury by-election decades later. For the years 2005 and 2006, he presided over the MCC and Sussex County Cricket Club, respectively.
When Holly Colvin and Sarah Taylor, who had both represented England, were selected to play for Brighton College’s First XI that summer, he caused considerable controversy by declaring to the Sunday Telegraph that it was “absolutely outrageous” for female athletes to play cricket with male athletes.
