Scottish Labour politician Richard John Simpson OBE was born in Edinburgh on October 22, 1942. He served as an MSP for the Ochil constituency from 1999 to 2003 and for the Mid Scotland and Fife region from 2007 to 2016. He is a Unite member.
Simpson received his education at the University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Glenalmond, and Perth Academy. Prior to his election, Simpson worked as a general practitioner and psychiatrist. He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Royal College of General Practitioners.
