Rich Eustis, an Emmy-winning screenwriter, passed away on October 30 in Thousand Oaks, California, according to his family.
The popular ABC television programme Head of the Class, which debuted in 1986 and ran for five seasons, was created by Eustis and Elias, a writing duo.

Before relocating to Los Angeles, Eustis, a Vancouver, British Columbia native, was a football star and a journalist. Before joining up with Michael Elias, his creative partner of 20 years, he began his TV career on variety shows, penning songs for Dean Martin and John Denver.
For his 1975 television special An Evening with John Denver, he received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special.
Eustis is survived by his beloved wife, Tiana; his sons John and Ronald; daughter Madeleine; son-in-law Marcel Samek; grandson Julian Eustis Samek; and granddaughters Colette Eustis Samek and Linh Eustis. His daughter-in-law, Oanh Ly, is also a TV writer.
