She was born to her parents on December 2, 1967, in Toronto, Canada. She got the attention of many after she mapped the complex landscape of teenage transgression with exquisite detail and precise language in a novel, “The Torn Skirt,” (which was released in 2001) and later in a nonfiction book, “Under the Bridge,”(which was released in 2005) about a murder that became a cause célèbre in Canada.
