Padma Lakshmi recalls ‘slut shaming’ while her daughter’s paternity was being questioned in 2010

Renowned television host and cookbook author Padma Lakshmi recently shared some intimate details about a challenging period in her life. In a candid interview with The New Yorker, Lakshmi opened up about the time when her daughter’s paternity was brought into question.

Lakshmi welcomed her daughter, Krishna, in 2010 with Adam Dell, but initially kept Dell’s identity private. During a previous podcast interview with PEOPLE’s “Me Becoming Mom,” she disclosed that she was “between relationships” at the time of Krishna’s birth.

In her 2016 memoir, “Love, Loss and What We Ate,” Lakshmi delved deeper into the complexities of navigating her relationships with both Dell and another man, Teddy Forstmann, leading up to Krishna’s birth. The former Top Chef host’s romantic history also includes a high-profile marriage to author Salman Rushdie, which ended in divorce in 2007. Despite the controversies and age differences, Lakshmi emphasized that their love was genuine.
