Michael Ensley, Nash’s brother, was shot and killed at Reseda High School in California in February 1993 when he was only 17 years old by a 16-year-old shooter.
According to reports, the assassin of Ensley was committed to a juvenile detention center in 2002 before being found guilty of attempted first-degree murder and sentenced to prison. After being freed in 2011, he was detained once more in 2012 on suspicion of fatally stabbing his wife Demetra.

From 2003 through 2010, Nash served as the host of the Style Network program Clean House, for which she received a 2010 Daytime Emmy Award.
Nash has also had a number of acting parts in movies and numerous cameos on TV shows. Nash portrayed civil rights activist Richie Jean Jackson in the Ava DuVernay-helmed historical movie Selma in 2014.
She appeared in the 2019 DuVernay miniseries When They See Us as Delores Wise, for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
