The celebrated American actress and singer Leslie Uggams was born on May 25, 1943, in Harlem. Harold and Juanita Uggams gave birth to her.
She went to Juilliard and the Professional’s Children School in New York. In 1951, Uggams began her career in show business as a young child by portraying Ethel Waters’ niece on Beulah.
At the age of six, she made her professional television debut on Jack Barry’s NBC program “Stars And Stardust.”
When Uggams was ten years old, she recorded a song for MGM called “Uncle Santa” which was a rearrangement of the song Santa Baby with kid-friendly lyrics.
