Petras began writing songs while she was a teenager, and in 2011 she published One Piece of Tape, her first extended play. Her first worldwide hit, “I Don’t Want It at All,” which she independently released in 2017, dominated several Spotify viral music rankings. The number-one singles “1, 2, 3 Dayz Up,” “Heart to Break,” and “Feeling of Falling” (with Cheat Codes) were released immediately after the song (featuring Sophie)
Petras joined Republic Records in 2021, and in 2022, the seven-track EP Slut Pop was published. Later in the year, Petras and Sam Smith jointly released the track “Unholy.” It was Petras’ first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Petras received her first Grammy nomination for the song’s Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
