He initially resided with his family in New Orleans, Louisiana, before moving to Baton Rouge. Gates has a difficult upbringing and was detained for the first time at the age of 13 in 1999 for riding along in a stolen car. When he was young, he lost touch with his father, but as a teenager, he found him again. Gates’ father passed away at the age of 14 due to complications from AIDS. When he was 17 years old, he temporarily attended Baton Rouge Community College. Gates was reared in Puerto Rico after being born in Morocco.
