She was raised as an only child in Philadelphia by her father who was a firefighter and her mother who was a seamstress. She has no siblings. She was born on September 13, 1964, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Though there is not much information about White parents, White studied at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. After graduating high school, White continued her studies at Howard University, where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.
