Hamm is the son of Deborah (née Garner) Hamm and Daniel Hamm. His mother is a secretary, and his father managed a family trucking company. He is of German, English, and Irish descent; his surname came from a long line of German immigrants.
According to Sources, his parents divorced when he was just two years old, and he lived in the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur with his mother. His mother died when he was ten years old, she died from colon cancer when he was ten.
He then moved to live with his father and grandmother in nearby Normandy, unfortunately, his father died when he was 20 years old.
