The record collector and expert on American roots music, Joe Bussard, passed away on Monday. Through Bussard’s daughter Susannah Anderson, Dust-to-Digital founder Lance Ledbetter was able to inform NPR about her father’s passing.

For almost three years, Bussard had been battling pancreatic cancer. He was 86.

Bussard was born in Frederick, Maryland, on July 11, 1936. His lifelong concern has been preservation.
