Jerry Lee Lewis was an American singer, songwriter and pianist. Nicknamed “the Killer”, he was described as “rock and roll’s first great wild man and one of the most influential pianists of the 20th century”.

Jerry Lee Lewis who is the rock’n’roll pioneer and became one of the most infamous figures in popular music has died aged 87, his publicist has said. He died of natural causes at his home in DeSoto County, Mississippi.
However, on February 28, 2019, Lewis had a minor stroke in Memphis. He fully recovered after several cancelled appearances.
On October 26, 2022, TMZ and other news outlets falsely reported that Lewis had died. Two days later, he died at his home in Nesbit, Mississippi, following a bout of pneumonia, at the age of 87.
Lewis was born to Elmo Kidd Lewis Sr. and Mary “Mamie” Herron Lewis in Ferriday, Louisiana. He grew up in an impoverished farming family in Eastern Louisiana. In his youth, he began playing the piano with two of his cousins, Mickey Gilley (later a popular country music singer) and Jimmy Swaggart (later a popular televangelist).
Lewis made his first recordings in 1952 at Cosimo Matassa’s J&M Studio in New Orleans, Louisiana. He covered Lefty Frizzell’s “Don’t Stay Away (Till Love Grows Cold)” and his instrumental composition “Jerry’s Boogie” (AKA New Orleans Boogie).
