Is Morgan Freeman an atheist?

Morgan Freeman is an American actor, director, and narrator. He is known for his distinctively deep voice and various roles in a wide variety of film genres. Freeman worked as a dancer at the 1964 World’s Fair and was a member of the Opera Ring musical theatre group in San Francisco. He acted in a touring company version of The Royal Hunt of the Sun, and also appeared as an extra in Sidney Lumet’s 1965 drama film The Pawnbroker starring Rod Steiger.

Is Morgan Freeman an atheist?

Since he believes that man made up the concept of God, it would seem that he is probably an atheist. Keep in mind that people can have complicated and nuanced stances on the existence of God, most particularly about what to call God, if they bother to use the word at all.

In a 2012 interview with TheWrap, Freeman was asked if he considered himself atheist or agnostic. He replied, “It’s a hard question because as I said at the start, I think we invented God. So if I believe in God, and I do, it’s because I think I’m God.”

Freeman later said that his experience working on The Story of God with Morgan Freeman did not change his views on religion.
