Just one week shy of her 95th birthday, actress Eileen Ryan passed away on Sunday at her home. She was the mother of musicians Michael Penn, Sean Penn, and Christopher Penn.
In 1957, during the preparations for the Circle in the Square production of The Iceman Cometh, Ryan, then known as Eileen Annucci, met fellow actor Leo Penn (Leo Penn had taken over for Jason Robards). Within a few months, the two were wed, beginning a union that would survive for 41 years, until Leo Penn’s passing in 1998.

A representative for the family made the announcement of her passing. Christopher Penn, her son, predeceased her in 2006.
A cause of death and other details were not immediately available.
She made appearances on the big screen in a number of movies, including Benny & Joon, At Close Range, Parenthood, and a number of her kids’ films, such as At Close Range, I Am Sam, The Indian Runner, and The Crossing Guard.
