From 2015 through 2018, Johnson played collegiate football for Toledo. He caught 135 passes for 2,235 yards and 23 touchdowns while playing at Toledo.
He attempted to run four times for a total of 26 yards. The greatest season of his career saw him haul in 74 passes for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Johnson 66th overall in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The selection was initially given to the Steelers in exchange for Antonio Brown, who was traded to the Oakland Raiders. Johnson played against the New England Patriots in Week 1 to make his NFL debut.
