According to the Philadelphia Phillies organization, minor leaguer Corey Phelan passed away on Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 20 years old.

Phelan, an undrafted free agent who signed with Philadelphia after the MLB draft was cut short in 2020, battled an aggressive form of non-lymphoma.

He pitched last season for the Class-A Phillies and gave up one run in 9 2/3 innings, but he never again took the mound after being diagnosed.

He was only 19 years old when he received a Non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s cancer diagnosis. Due to non-Hodgkin lymphoma, he was placed on the injured list, and manager Joe Girardi and his staff planned a visit.

Phelan recalled when the symptoms showed up and said: “I was taking a shower and I passed out in the shower. So I called 911 and the ambulance came, I got a CAT scan of my chest and they told me I had a 9-inch mass in my chest.”
