Conan Gray grew up in Georgetown, Texas after being born on December 5, 1998, in Lemon Grove, California.
As a young child, he started posting original music, covers, and vlogs on YouTube. Gray signed a record deal with Republic Records in 2018, and his debut EP, Sunset Season, was later made available.

Gray relocated twelve times as a youngster due to his military-related father, three of which occurred in the sixth grade. Gray experienced a lot of bullying throughout elementary school. There were just five Asian pupils in his school at one time.
As an adolescent, Gray finally relocated to Georgetown, Texas, where he spent the remainder of his youth. Much of Gray’s art and music was influenced by his background in central Texas. In September 2017, he moved to Los Angeles after being admitted to UCLA.
