Catherine Keener was born to Evelyn (née Jamiel) and Jim Keener. Her father was a manager of a mattress store in Hialeah, Florida.
According to sources, Catherine Keener is of Irish descent on her father’s side, and of Lebanese descent on her mother’s. She was raised in Hialeah as a Catholic and attended Catholic schools. She attended Monsignor Edward Pace High School.
Catherine Keener is not the only child of her parents, she has four other siblings and she stands as the third of five children born to her parents. Her sister, Elizabeth Keener, is also an actress and a real estate agent working for Sotheby’s in Los Angeles
