Bill Plante, a renowned journalist and CBS News correspondent who was born on January 14th, 1938, joined the network in 1964.
His most recent position was Senior White House Correspondent for CBS, where he regularly reported for both the CBS Evening News and CBS This Morning.
As a national correspondent for CBS News, Plante covered the 1965 voting rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
The first of his three tours of duty in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War began in 1964, and the last one ended in 1975, just before Saigon fell.
From 1988 through 1995, he served as the CBS Sunday Night News host.
Bill ceased working in November 2016.
He is the stepfather of syndicated radio talk show host Chris Plante.
