The famous Barry McGovern is an Irish stage, film, and television actor. He was educated at Castleknock College, Dublin.

McGovern is a former member of the RTÉ Players and the Abbey Theatre Company. He has worked in theatre, film, radio, and television, as well as written music for many shows, co-written two musicals, and directed plays and operas.

He is known internationally for his award-winning one-man Beckett shows I’ll Go On and Watt which the Gate Theatre presented at the 1985 and 2010 Dublin Theatre Festival respectively. McGovern revived “I’ll Go On” for a run at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City for L.A.’s Center Theatre Group in 2014.

Barry McGovern was married to a very beautiful woman called Anita Reeves. Anita Reeves was born in Dublin in 1948 and studied acting on a part-time basis at the Brendan Smith academy whilst working as a laundress. Inspired by fellow Irish actress Maureen Potter she appeared at the Gaiety Theatre with the original cast of ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’ and played Mrs. Lovett in ‘Sweeney Todd’ at the Gate theatre and Juno in ‘Juno and the Paycock’ both in Dublin and on Broadway in addition to several film appearances, notably for Neil Jordan. Married to Julian Erskine, the executive producer of Riverdance Ms. Reeves passed away following a battle with cancer in Dublin on July 7, 2016.
