Antonio Dennard dies: Cause of death revealed

Former NFL cornerback Antonio Dennard was shot and killed outside a bar near Reading, Pennsylvania, early Sunday morning, according to WFMZ. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:15 a.m.

Authorities ruled his death a homicide. It is unknown whether police have identified a suspect or suspects, and they also have not announced a possible motive for the shooting.

The Jaguars signed him as a college free agent out of Langston University in 2012. He also spent time with the Giants and Packers. Though he never played in a regular-season game, Dennard was on the practice squads of the Jaguars and Packers.

He was signed by the Jaguars out of college in 2012 before linking up with the Packers the following year. He was briefly signed by the Giants before returning to Green Bay for two further seasons.

Dennard went on to play two seasons for the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Football League from 2015 to 2017.

After his playing career finished, he took up coaching young players. Dennard’s former college football coach Brandon Roberts paid tribute to him in a post on Facebook.

I would talk to the NFL Scouts about how great of a person you were and how much of a stand-up kid you were, Mr. Roberts wrote. I remember us sitting in the meeting room talking to the 49ers, Jets, Jaguars, Packers, and Eagles. I know today you have received your wings RIP.
