Adwoa Aboah stole the show at the 2024 Met Gala, not just with her stunning ensemble, but also with a beautiful surprise — she’s pregnant!
The 31-year-old British model announced her pregnancy at the fashion extravaganza at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 6. Aboah, the founder of Gurls Talk, proudly displayed her bare baby bump as she exited The Carlyle Hotel, and her smile lit up the Met’s iconic steps upon arrival.
The theme for this year’s Met Gala was “The Garden of Time,” in conjunction with the Costume Institute’s spring exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Aboah embraced the theme with grace, donning a striking red two-piece set from H&M that featured a capelet in red silk organza with delicate tulle ruffles over a rhinestone-embroidered bralette. She paired this with a bubble-hem skirt in coordinating red silk taffeta.
With her hair styled in a high ballerina bun and scarlet red heels and clutch to complete the look, the mom-to-be radiated sheer elegance on the star-studded red carpet event.
This wasn’t Aboah’s first Met Gala appearance; she made her debut in 2017 and chose her fifth Met Ball to share the joyous news of her pregnancy. At the previous Costume Institute Gala in May 2022, with the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” Aboah wore a pale pink polka-dot gown by Tory Burch.
The theme of the 2024 Met Gala, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” celebrates an upcoming Costume Institute exhibition showcasing around 250 items spanning over 400 years of fashion history. The exhibition will be on display from May 10 to Sept. 2 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Curated by Andrew Bolton, the exhibit’s main focus will be on three “zones” — Land, Sea, and Sky — paying tribute to the natural world and aiming to evoke the emotional poetics of fashion.
As Aboah continues to shine in her personal and professional life, her pregnancy announcement at the Met Gala added another layer of beauty and joy to the already magical evening.
