Corey Stoll’s 8-year-old son Nico is starting to grasp his father’s profession as an actor, although he has yet to watch him in Marvel’s “Ant-Man.”
During an interview with PEOPLE at the 2024 Tony Awards Meet the Nominees event, Stoll, 48, shared that Nico recently attempted to watch the 2015 superhero film, but stopped when he saw his dad portraying the super villain Yellowjacket.
“He was like, ‘This is weird,'” Stoll explained, noting that it might be strange for Nico to see him as a bad guy.
Stoll, known for his role in “Ant-Man” alongside Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly, made a surprising return in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” as M.O.D.A.K. after appearing to die in the first film.
The actor emphasized that he and his wife Nadia Bowers prioritize ensuring that the fame aspect of his job does not become a significant part of their son’s life. They previously took Nico to Italy, where they were working on a theater project, to show him the effort behind creating art.
Stoll is currently starring in Branden Jacobs Jenkins’ successful play “Appropriate” on Broadway, where he is nominated for a Tony Award alongside co-star Sarah Paulson. The play focuses on a trio of siblings coming to terms with their past after returning to their late father’s estate.
Describing his character Bo, Stoll mentioned that he drew inspiration from the behavior of dads at a Taylor Swift concert, highlighting the masculinity and overcompensation aspects he embodies.
Despite the intense family drama in the play, Stoll noted that working with Paulson and Michael Esper has been a dream, as they can fully immerse themselves in the intense performances knowing they have each others’ back.
“Appropriate” is scheduled to run through June 23 at the Belasco Theatre in New York City, with tickets currently on sale for interested theatergoers.
The 2024 Tony Awards, where Stoll and Paulson are nominated, are set to take place on June 16 at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City. The show will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET, with select awards also being presented on a pre-show available for streaming on Pluto TV.
