Forest Whitaker, the renowned actor known for his roles in movies like “The Last King of Scotland” and “Where The Wild Things Are,” is also a dedicated father to his four children: Ocean, Autumn, Sonnet, and True.
While Forest may be known as the godfather of Harlem on screen, in real life, he takes pride in being a loving and supportive father to his kids.
Forest’s journey into fatherhood began with his first child and only son, Ocean, who was born in 1990 with a previous partner. In 1996, Forest tied the knot with his late ex-wife Keisha Nash, and the couple welcomed daughters Sonnet and True in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Keisha also had a daughter, Autumn, from a previous relationship, whom Forest helped raise as his own.
Despite their long marriage of 22 years, Forest and Keisha filed for divorce in December 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. Sadly, on December 7, 2023, their youngest daughter, True, announced the passing of her mother through an emotional Instagram Story tribute.
True expressed her love and gratitude for her mother, calling her “the most beautiful woman in the world” and thanking her for teaching her everything she knows. Forest and Keisha’s daughters have been by their father’s side throughout his career, attending various events and premieres with him.
Forest’s children played an essential role in his career as well, assisting him in preparing for roles like the gentle beast Ira in “Where The Wild Things Are.” Additionally, Sonnet pursued her passion for music and released her first album, “N.F.S.,” in October 2022.
True, following in her father’s footsteps, ventured into acting and starred in an episode of “The Godfather of Harlem” alongside Forest.
She shared that her father’s support and encouragement have been crucial in her journey and credited him with instilling values of empathy and open-mindedness in her and her siblings.
