Takara was the younger of two children born in Washington, DC. She had little interest in politics, therefore she spent the majority of her teens as a student-athlete, dreaming of becoming an Olympic gymnast and a lawyer.
Takara made her stage debut at the age of seven as “Orchid” in her school’s production of Rose Petal’s Place. However, she had no intention of becoming an actor. In actuality, she was shy and despised performing in front of crowds, and her “gripping performance” did not change her mind.
