David Norris Brenner was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and novelist who lived from February 4, 1936, until March 15, 2014.
Brenner “was a pioneer of observational comedy,” appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson for the majority of the 1970s and 1980s.
Where did David Brenner go to college and high school? Did David Brenner go to film school?
After graduating from high school, Brenner spent two years working as a cryptographer in Böblingen, Germany, with the 101st Airborne and the 595th Signal Corps.
After being discharged from the military, he enrolled at Temple University, where he majored in public communication and graduated with honours.
Before he started writing comedies, Brenner produced or wrote 115 television documentaries. He also oversaw the documentaries departments of Westinghouse Broadcasting and Metromedia, where he won over 30 accolades, including an Emmy.
In June 1969, he performed for a fee for the first time at The Improv. Following that, he routinely made appearances at Greenwich Village nightclubs.
