At the age of 85, Gene Perret, an Emmy-winning writer who also collaborated with Bob Hope and “The Carol Burnett Show,” passed away.
His beloved father passed suddenly on November 15 at his Westlake Village, California, home due to liver disease, his daughter Linda Perret announced to The Hollywood Reporter.

Perret spent the majority of his illustrious career as a cherished writer for “The Carol Burnett Show,” for which he won three Emmys for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy-Variety or Music Series in 1974, 1975, and 1978.
According to his website, Perret penned jokes for Phyllis Diller, Bob Hope, Carol Burnett, Bill Cosby, and Tim Conway, to name a few. He was Hope’s main writer from 1969 until Hope’s retirement.
Perret also dabbled in writing books over the course of a career spanning five decades, which ultimately had a big impact on his success.
In the end, he wrote for numerous prestigious magazines and produced over 45 books on comedy.
