Actress Dame Helen Mirren DBE is from England. She was born in London, England, on July 26, 1945. Before making her movie acting debut in the 1960s, Helen Mirren pursued theatre work.

She has received several awards, and she is the only actor to have won the Triple Crown of Acting in both the US and the UK.

At the Catholic convent school St. Bernard’s High School in Southend-on-Sea, Mirren received her high school education. Prior to attending high school, she was a student at Westcliff-on-Hamlet Sea’s Court Primary School, where she played the lead in a performance of Hansel and Gretel.

Helen was encouraged to try out for the National Youth Theatre while she was a senior in high school by her English teacher, who just so happened to be on the recruitment flyer.

She was accepted into the National Youth Theatre (NYT) at the age of eighteen, and at the age of twenty, she appeared as Cleopatra in the NYT production of Antony and Cleopatra at the Old Vic. She credits her performance with “launching my career” and getting her signed with agent Al Parker.
