When Freeman’s 1997 Nissan Maxima overturned outside Ruleville, Mississippi, on the evening of August 3, 2008, he was hurt in a car accident. Hydraulic tools were required to cut him and his passenger, Demaris Meyer, free from the car. After the collision, Freeman was still awake and had a laugh with a witness.
