Pieiro Sr. played professional soccer with the ASL/Fort APSL’s Lauderdale Strikers. His son Eddy Pineiro took up the sport before switching to football.

Pieiro was a four-time All-Dade County selection on the field before graduating from Miami Sunset Senior High School in his senior year. Pieiro was supposed to play soccer at Florida Atlantic University, but academic concerns forced him to join ASA Institution, a minor community college in Florida.

Pieiro wowed legendary Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban at an open kicking combine at the University of Alabama in 2015. Pieiro stood out among hundreds of kickers and decided to attend Alabama.

However, he later tried out for the University of Florida and ended up in Gainsville.

During his final year at Florida, Pieiro had the best field goal percentage in collegiate football, missing only one of his 18 attempts for a 94.4 percent conversion rate.

Pieiro finished his Gator career with a field goal conversion rate of 88.4 percent, which is now the best in program history.
