On April 18, Nigel Jones, 64, had been out drinking at the Oddfellows Arms in Chester’s Frodsham Street.

When he turned around to walk back to the Richmond Court homeless shelter at shortly after midnight, bar personnel reported that he appeared “glad,” but not intoxicated.

One bartender who wasn’t working said he had been praising the health benefits of spaghetti on toast, which he was eager to enjoy after a night at the bar.

Mr. Jones had approximately three times the legal limit for blood alcohol when he was found dead, according to a post-mortem examination.

It also revealed he had arteries that had previously gone untreated hardening.

It’s conceivable that Nigel was strolling along the canal when he underestimated where the edge was due to his alcohol intoxication and fell into the canal, according to Alan Moore, assistant coroner for Cheshire, who recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
