Lucas grew up in Everett, Washington, and went to Archbishop Murphy High School, where he participated in football, basketball, and as an offensive and defensive lineman.

Despite receiving offers from Oregon State and Wyoming, three-star recruit Lucas chose to play college football at Washington State.

In Washington State’s true freshman year, Lucas redshirted. Prior to his redshirt freshman season, he was selected as the Cougars’ starting right tackle. Lucas was selected as a second-team All-Pac-12 Conference and a freshman All-American by USA Today after starting all 13 of Washington State’s games.

In his redshirt sophomore season, he started every game at right tackle for Washington State and was once more selected to the second team of the Pac-12.
