In Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Lock attended Lee’s Summit High School. He passed for 3,060 yards and 35 touchdowns as a junior.
He passed for 2,731 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior in 2014, earning him the Kansas City Star’s All-Metro Player of the Year award. Lock received a four-star rating from Rivals and was classified as the sixth-best pro-style quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class.
