He played collegiate football for South Alabama, where he graduated as the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
After sustaining a knee injury in preseason training camp, Tolbert redshirted his true freshman season at South Alabama.
As a redshirt sophomore, he made his starting debut and finished the year with 27 receptions for 521 yards and six touchdowns. As a redshirt junior, Tolbert earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honours after setting school records by collecting 64 catches for 1,085 yards and eight touchdowns.
He established a school record against Arkansas State with 252 receiving yards on ten grabs and three touchdowns. After breaking his own school records in 2021 with 82 receptions for 1,474 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, he was once more selected first-team All-Sun Belt and the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year.
