The Oakland Raiders selected him in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft after he played college football for UCF. Along with the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and Minnesota Vikings, he also played for them.

In his collegiate debut, he ran for 43 yards and two touchdowns against South Carolina State.  He ended with 132 running yards and three rushing touchdowns during his rookie season.  While playing basketball in the offseason following his freshman year, Murray tore his ACL.

In 2010, he rejoined the Knights’ backfield after redshirting in 2009. He had his best game of the season on November 20 against Tulane, running for 146 yards and scoring a touchdown. He concluded the game against SMU on December 4 with 94 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards while also scoring his first receiving touchdown in a collegiate game.
