Jennifer Beals is an American actress and former adolescent model who was born on December 19, 1963.
She made her film debut in My Bodyguard (1980), then received praise for her performance in Flashdance (1983), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical and won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture.

Beals was born and bred in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. She is the daughter of Alfred Beals, a grocery store owner, and Jeanne (née Anderson), a primary school teacher. Her mother is Irish-American, while Beals’ father was African-American.
Gregory and Bobby are her brothers. Beals’ father passed away when she was nine years old, and the next summer she spent at Cheley Colorado Camps in Estes Park, Colorado. [8] In 1981, her mother wed Edward Cohen.
Beals attended the Young People’s Drama Workshop at the Goodman Theatre after graduating from the Francis W. Parker School.
