Young drummer Scott Raynor formed a band with classmate Ryan Kennedy at the age of 11 to participate in a school competition.

The competition was “sort of a show and tell thing,” Raynor later said. The duo was first influenced by Metallica, but thought their music to be far too complex; instead, they played “London Dungeon” by the Misfits and “Twist of Cain” by Danzig. The song “Vlad the Impaler” by Gwar was covered by Raynor for his debut public appearance.
