She gained notoriety for playing Brenda Meeks in the comedy-horror Scary Movie series of movies (2000–2006). Since then, she has made appearances in the television series Ally McBeal (2001–2002), Law & Order: LA (2010–2011), Grandfathered (2016), Black Monday (2019–2021), and the movies The Best Man (1999), The Best Man Holiday (2013 film), About Last Night (2014 film), Vacation (2015 film), Girls Trip (2017 film), The Hate U Give (2018 film), and Little (2019 film) (2019).
Hall won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress after receiving praise for the comedy Support the Girls (2018), making history as the first African American to do so.
