Sacheen Littlefeather dies: Cause of death revealed
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences reported Littlefeather’s demise on Sunday. Littlefeather reported in a Facebook post at the start of 2021 that she had breast cancer that had metastasized, even though the cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Only a few weeks had passed since Littlefeather received an apology from the academy for the torture she had experienced.
When Brando won the best actor for “The Godfather” in 1973, 26-year-old Littlefeather took the stage and became the first Native American woman ever to do so at the Academy Awards. The 1973 Oscars were held during the American Indian Movement’s two-month occupation of Wounded Knee.
