Actor James McAvoy is from Scotland. His feature film career began in 2003 after he made his acting debut as a teenager in The Near Room (1995). Prior to that, he mainly performed on television.

James Johnstone and Mary Johnston were the grandparents of James McAvoy. McAvoy formerly resided with his grandparents. McAvoy’s parents divorced when he was 11 years old after divorcing when he was just 7 years old.
McAvoy was ill at the time he was living with his mother, who eventually transferred him to live with Mary and James Johnstone in the adjacent Drumchapel neighborhood of Glasgow.
McAvoy has not spoken to his father since he and his father split up when he was a child.
